piCOMPACT®23 SMART now available with IO-link Class B

Published 5/11/2024

Piab extends the piCOMPACT23 SMART program with IO-link Class B equipped with separate power domains between actuator power and the sensor power.

In robot cells with high degree of safety, power supply for actuators and sensors are separated to prevent the risk of injury to people entering the cell during service or maintenance after e.g. an emergency stop (E-stop). The piCOMPACT®23 SMART with IO-link Class B enables a higher degree of safety by internally separating the power to the valves and sensors. In case of power failure or emergency stop the power to the valves can be disconnected while still supplying power to the sensors so that e.g. part present and vacuum level still can be monitored.

Combining IO-link Class B with Bi-stable valve option, the piCOMPACT®23 SMART enables even higher safety in case of power failure or emergency stop since the Bi-stable valve will stay in its last position. If the pump is in Energy Saving (ES) mode the valve shifts ones using a stored energy reserve, so vacuum is generated, and the object is secured.

IO-link Class B option is now available in the piCOMPACT®23 SMART configurator.

Main customer benefits

  • piCOMPACT®23 SMART with IO-link Class B enables a higher degree of safety in robot cells by separating the power supply for actuators and sensors.
  • piCOMPACT®23 SMART IO-link Class B in combination with the Bi-stable valve option improves safety further, ensuring that the object is secured even if the pump is in Energy saving mode by re-activating the vacuum generation.
